While the future of Dartmouth’s fraternities
may be uncertain, what is certain is that Sigma Phi Epsilon is consistently
recognized as one of Dartmouth’s strongest and most successful Greek
organizations. SigEp attracts high quality men to its ranks. Despite our yearly membership
of around 90, we maintain an extremely strong, diverse brotherhood with
deep friendships. A great variety of interests and backgrounds are represented
in the house, making it very difficult define a “typical”
Sig Ep. We have athletes from many teams, premeds, writers, singers, actors,
and Student Assembly officers. However, what distinguishes SigEp is our Balanced Man Project, an ongoing
program of development that pushes brothers to challenge themselves and
to use their different talents and backgrounds to strengthen the house
and contribute positively to the College and the Upper Valley community.
Under the BMP, members of SigEp become brothers the moment they sink their
bids, without having to endure a pledge period. Finally, SigEp adheres to the three basic principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. The most important aspect of being a brother is that you have a great deal of fun. It is no accident that our parties are consistently packed, from standard open parties to the big weekends to the annual Dr. Seuss party, which honors the memory of SigEp’s most famous alumnus.
