Mars Exploration Present and Future

Currently, a probe is in orbit around Mars. This probe, the Mars Global Surveyor, is mapping the surface of Mars.

A series of unmanned probes to Mars are planned for the future. Mars Exploration Program, provides information on NASA's exploration plan.

At present, there is no approval for a manned mission to Mars. There are, however, several plans on how this mission might be done. The site The Mars Reference Mission provides information on a draft mission plan NASA is using for future planning. This site, The Case for Mars, provides technical information on how a mission could be accomplished.

The book The Case for Mars by Robert Zubrin outlines a plan for human exploration of the red planet. The site, Mars Direct, provides information on this plan.
