Tempe Terra: The landing site is located on the Northern hemisphere in the Tempe Terra formation.It is interpreted to consist of intermdeiate age lava flows extruded from small shield volcanoes and fissures on the Tempe Terra plateau. Lobate scarps mark the edges of these lava flows. Tectonic features like faults and fractures are common. The surface roughness is relatively high.
