Staff Performance Evaluation Process

Performance Evaluation Cycle for 2016

The annual evaluation is designed to be the culmination of a year-long dialogue, and also presents an opportunity for both managers and employees to step back from the day-to-day work and think proactively about goals, priorities, accomplishments, and career and professional development.

  • All divisions are expected to complete annual reviews for staff hired on or before October 1, 2016.
  • All completed performance evaluations should be submitted through the established routing channels for every department or division to ensure the completed reviews are received in the Office of Human Resources by February 1, 2017.
  • Resources and materials (including the form, instructions, and employee preparation discussion topics) are below.

General Process Overview

Employees consistently report that knowing what is expected of them and receiving timely and constructive performance feedback are keys to having what they need to perform their jobs well.

Roles become more challenging every day, and just as roles constantly evolve, the expectations of employees continually change as well. Consequently, there is a vital need to clarify expectations and to encourage the development of skills that are critical both to the future success of Dartmouth and to the future development of employees.
