Group Facilitation Programs

The following programs are available to managers.  For more information, contact your HR consultant.

"Day in the Life" Workshop

This is a team-building exercise facilitated by Rebecca Joffrey, Associate Director of Career Development at the Tuck School of Business, and co-editor of the book This Day in the Life: Diaries From Women Across America (Three Rivers Press, 2005). Participants are instructed to keep a day diary, recording their thoughts and activities during a single 24-hour work day. Rebecca compiles the diaries into a "book" and presents themes in a workshop-style discussion. The process launches participants into an exploration of their lives, attitudes, and activities, both in and out of work.

Discussions take their own direction depending on the needs of the group: an examination of how a single job title plays out in many different ways; a brainstorming session on improving interaction among co-workers; group observations about work styles and patterns; a kickoff event for a newly formed team. By taking stock and sharing the details of one day, each participant walks away with a new understanding of their colleagues and themselves.  $125 per participant, minimum of 15 participants.  Participants can be in the same work group or work groups that rely upon one another.

Personalysis

Call it "Emotional Intelligence" or just learning more about yourself and team members. This management tool seems to "stick" for the long-term as it gives a unique assessment of personality, insights into how people think, what type of work they prefer, how they learn new things, how they solve problems, how they deal with others, and how they cope under stress.  For example, it may help you to talk and work successfully with people who need lots of options, who work best alone, who like to discuss every angle at length, who need to act immediately, who can't commit, who need to look at past experience, who need details, who look for consensus, or who always think “what if. . .” This may help you learn why you react the way you do, how to get yourself "unstuck", whose skills will complement yours, how to approach someone about a difficult subject, and, best of all, learn how to make your style work for you when dealing with another personality!

Each participant takes a simple, 15-minute, self-administered online questionnaire. The analysis of this data results in a customized report and CD rom which describes three levels of personality (what you're born with, how you think you ought to be/be managed, and how you like to work) and then represents them with four colors that provide a language to describe yourself and learn about others in terms of abilities and interests in "acting", "adapting", "analyzing", and "assessing". The goal is to promote self-awareness, improve communication with colleagues and customers, and become familiar with a language that may become part of the work culture.  This is not a traditional personality "test", nor does it indicate whether someone should or shouldn't be working in a certain job. It transcends gender, race, and age, ultimately giving us concrete information to know ourselves better.  $200 for an individual personalized report, including a CD Rom, an online walk-through of results, and a desk plaque. No minimum—the program can be done for individuals or groups of any size.  A group facilitation that pulls together the dynamics of all participants may also be conducted.  This program is informal, active and uses humor to improve interaction among team members. Great for new leaders and their teams, as well as for groups merging or who need to work better together. A professional trainer will facilitate up to 20 people.

The "GO" System: Productivity Essentials for Groups

Find focus and learn to deal with competing priorities, interruptions, and the endless stream of e-mail, voicemail, and paper. Examine the decisions, choices, and habits that may be contributing to that feeling of drowning in paper piles, to-do lists, and e-mails. Help your group find more balance, get in sync, and become more effective. The program is led by Productivity Consultant Cristin Lind. Cristin helps busy professionals enhance their work and enrich their lives by creating the systems, spaces and habits that allow their work to flow. Her clients include all levels of successful professionals at Harvard Medical School, Boston University and Massachusetts General Hospital. $199 per person, minimum of 10 participants. This program can be conducted with co-workers in the same group or shared with another area.
