Dartmouth College offers group term life insurance and dependent life insurance policies managed by MetLife.
Electing & Changing Your Coverage
As a new hire, you are eligible to elect coverage up to 2.5 times your pay (not exceeding $500,000) without a Statement of Health Form. If you choose to elect more than 2.5 times your pay or $500,000 or more, you will be required to complete the Statement of Health Form.
Any increases in your life insurance amount that occurs after your new hire election period must be elected during the Open Enrollment period or within a 30 days of a Status Change event. These increases will require completion of the Statement of Health Form.
You will not see the additional life insurance on your confirmation statement until MetLife has approved your request and notified the Benefits Office.
You name the beneficiary(ies) of your life insurance policy and may change your beneficiaries at any time. This is done by logging into the FlexOnline system and selecting "Designate Beneficiaries." You may choose primary and contingent beneficiaries. The total percentages for each group of primary and contingent beneficiaries must equal 100 percent.
You may elect life insurance for your dependents. This is a life insurance policy in which you are the named beneficiary in the event that something should happen to your insured dependents. You may elect coverage for your spouse, your children, or your family (spouse & children). Coverage for a spouse is $25,000 and coverage for each child is $10,000.
This election must be made as a new hire, during Open Enrollment, or within 30 days of a Status Change event.
