WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT WORKS

 A Crosby Benefits (WageWorks®) Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pre-tax benefit account used to pay for eligible medical, dental, and vision care expenses that aren't covered by your insurance plan.

ELIGIBLITY

Enrollment

Dartflex (Faculty, Exempt and Non-Exempt) and SEI Union employees. Research Associate B's and Research Fellows are not eligible to participate in the Health Care Flexible Spending Account Benefit.

Covered Dependents

The expenses of an employee's child who is under age 27 as of the end of the taxable year will qualify for tax-free reimbursement from a HCFSA, even if the child does not qualify as the employee's tax dependent

For this purpose, a "child" is an individual who is the employee's son, daughter, stepson, or stepdaughter, and includes both a legally adopted individual of the employee and an individual lawfully placed with the employee for legal adoption by the employee. The term "child" also includes an eligible foster child, which is defined as a child placed with the employee by an authorized placement agency or by judgment, decree, or other order of any court of competent jurisdiction.

Eligible Expenses

You may use your Health Care FSA dollars to pay for a wide variety of expenses including your medical co-payments, deductibles, coinsurance, prescription drug costs, dental costs, eye care and much more. Over-the-counter medications require a doctor's note or prescription providing reasons for medical necessity.

 

EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTION

Depending on the health plan you choose in 2017, Dartmouth College may make a contribution into a tax savings account in your name. It is important that you understand how these plans work, in order to maximize your cost savings, and utilize the Dartmouth contributions provided.

EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION

Depending on the health plan you choose in 2017, you too may be eligible to may make a contribution into a tax savings account. This is money that you put aside, each pay period on a pre-tax basis, that you later use to pay for eligible medical expenses. It is important that you understand how these plans work, in order to maximize your cost savings, and access your funds.

DEADLINES

  • Runout Period:  All expenses incurred in 2017, must be submitted to Crosby Benefits no later than March 31, 2018.
  • Carry Over:  2017 carry over dollars (maximum of $500) will not be added to your 2018 balance until Mid-April, 2018.
  • Contributing to an HSA next year?  Make sure you have a $0 balance in your HCFSA account on December 31st, otherwise the IRS says you will lose your carryover dollars.
  • Use it or Lose it - Any unspent balance beyond the $500 carryover, that is not submitted by the deadline dates listed above, will be forfeited.
