Acclaimed composer Philip Glass shared experiences gleaned from a life-long career in the arts. Dartmouth students residing in the East Wheelock cluster were treated to an evening of food and conversation about the power of collaborative creation and having unyielding dedication to one's vocation.

Glass spoke to students in Global Sounds, a Music Department course exploring non-Western forms of music. He shared insights about his longtime collaboration with legendary sitar master Ravi Shankar and the creation of Orion, a piece commissioned for the 2004 Olympics in Athens. The Orion project featured an international ensemble including Shankar (India), Wu Man (China), Foday Musa Suso (Gambia), and Uakti (Brazil).
