Persian Improvisations School Assembly: January 23, 2007

Iranian musicians Kayhan Kalhor and Siamak Aghaei visited a local elementary school and shared the beauty of Persian classical music. The musicians were joined by Ted Levin, Dartmouth professor of Music, who provided contextual information about Iran and its rich cultural traditions. The musicians demonstrated their instruments -- the kemancheh (spike fiddle) and santur (hammer dulcimer) -- and answered questions posed by the inquisitive youngsters. This assembly was part of Global Eyes, a Hopkins Center outreach project funded through the ArtLinks Initiative of the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
