The time has arrived! The new look for Dartmouth.edu launched this morning, bright and early at 6 a.m. Thankfully the transition went smoothly—just one brief hiccup with images, quickly resolved. It’s a privilege to belong to a team of capable, smart professionals who are as good natured at 1 and 5 a.m. as at noon!
An added bonus with this release is responsive design—the new site functions seamlessly across multiple devices. Open it up on a tablet or phone to see for yourself!
This feature adds significant technical complexity, something we hadn’t planned to tackle until Phase 2. But the outstanding group in Web Services stepped up to see if they could make it happen now and pulled it off flawlessly. Did I say I work with a great team?
Today’s launch is just the first step in this multi-phase effort—there is much more to come! On the horizon for Phase 2 in spring term:
- A complete overhaul of the top level of the site, with new information architecture and content
- The launch of 4 Arts & Sciences academic department sites in the new design
- Design templates to create a coherent experience for users—across multiple devices—and meet the website needs of departments
- New, upgraded utilities: institutional events calendar, digital campus map, and digital publishing platform (content management system)
This project is a complex, sustained effort that is only possible through collaboration. President Carol Folt and the senior leadership team have provided critical support and guidance. Hundreds of faculty, students, staff, alumni, and parents contributed their insights in the discovery process. Colleagues on the project team and around campus have rolled up their sleeves to achieve significant progress in a relatively short amount of time.
We extend our sincere gratitude to these partners, and we invite you to join them. Explore the site and send us your thoughts at email@example.com.
