Roth Center

Roth Center Dedicated in 1997, the Roth Center is one of the newest buildings on campus. This great facility is shared by Dartmouth Hillel and the Upper Valley Jewish Community (UVJC) and truly serves the entire Dartmouth community. Whether you want to pray, cook, study, or relax with friends, the Roth Center is the place to do it. Students of all faiths take advantage of its wonderful resources every day from 8AM until 10PM, and Hillel members can access the building 24/7. During finals period, the Roth Center is open 24 hours, providing students with a quiet place to study and always some nice snacks to munch on!

Hillel Sanctuary The largest and most versatile room in the building is the combined Alperin/Hirsch Sanctuary and Bildner Dining and Meeting Room. It has an electronic sliding partition running down the middle, allowing us to accommodate both larger services and smaller, more intimate ones. Student-led Friday night services and all other religious observances take place here. When the partition is closed, half of the room conveniently becomes a dining room, where anyone can enjoy a free student-cooked kosher meal following Friday night services. This room is also used for all sorts of programming, from lectures to musical performances.

Adjoining the sanctuary/dining area is the magnificent Rauch Kitchen, equipped with two sets of all the necessary appliances, dishes, and cookware. Hillel students work together to create enjoyable kosher meals throughout the year, especially on Friday nights. Kashrut laws are enforced so that the kitchen remains kosher and everyone feels comfortable using it.

Rosen Game Room The basement floor of the Roth Center serves multiple purposes. The newly redesigned Rosen Game Room, available only for student use, is furnished with a flat-screen TV, PlayStation 3, surround sound, computers, and the most comfortable couches on campus. Students often study, relax, and nap in this lounge. Movie nights and the annual Superbowl party are events regularly held here.

Lounge Both the Thalhimer Hillel Office and the Jacobs UVJC Office are at the basement level, as well as the Tapper Classroom (where weekly Hillel meetings are held) and classrooms for the UVJC Hebrew School.

Lappin Lounge The Lappin Lounge is another room where people go to sit and talk, study, play the piano, or nap. It has a comfortable sofa and chairs and an upright piano. Hillel holds bagel brunches here every Sunday morning, in addition to other programming.

Koreman Library The Koreman Library is a wonderful place for study of any kind. Dartmouth students love to take advantage of this quiet space, equipped with several computers and ample study room. Weekly study groups on topics related to Judaism are held here, either by Rabbi Boraz or another community member. In addition, the library boasts a substantial collection of books, periodicals and audio-visual media on topics related to Judaism, Jewish culture, and Israel. Currently, with the help of Fred Lerner, Dartmouth students and UVJC members are creating a complete catalog for the books, as well as repairing the current collection. When the project is completed, the catalog for the entire collection will be computerized for easy searching.

Donors Dartmouth Hillel owes endless gratitude to all of the generous people who made the Roth Center possible. Without you, the wonderful space where Jews on campus get together and learn from each other would not exist.
