Sexperts

Sexperts serve as campus educational programmers. We coordinate campus-wide education and respond to requests for peer education around issues of healthy sexuality, pleasure-based sexuality, STIs and contraception. Sexperts also provide confidential advising services for students who wish to speak to a peer on an individual basis. As a group, we strive to be inclusive and address all members of the Dartmouth student population.

Sexperts is a sexual health peer-advising group sponsored by Dartmouth College’s Health Resources Department (in Dick’s House). The Coordinator of Health Education Programs serves as our advisor.

Our Philosphy:

The philosophy of the Sexperts program is based upon the following Shared Beliefs and Values:

  1. All persons are sexual, whether we choose to actively express our sexuality or not
  2. Sexuality is a natural and healthy part of living
  3. Individuals express their sexuality in varied ways and it is important to respect and accept the diversity of values and beliefs about sexuality
  4. Individuals and society benefit when people are able to discuss sexuality openly and in a healthy manner
  5. Healthy sexual relationships are consensual and never coercive or exploitative
  6. All persons have the right and responsibility to make healthy sexual choices
  7. Sexperts promote a positive view of sexuality, provide Dartmouth students with information and skills about caring for their sexual health, and help them acquire knowledge to make informed decisions now and in the future

Our Training:

Sexperts participate in approximately 24 hours of training, typically broken down into two hour sessions. Sexperts Training is offered during the Spring and Fall terms. This training is designed to give Sexperts the knowledge and ability to discuss such topics as STIs, contraception, pleasure-based sexuality, sexual identity, communication and intimacy in relationships. Because our training focuses on sexual education as well as listening and advising skills, Sexperts are prepared to serve as sexual health resources and referral points for their peers.

The Sexperts trainings for 2007-08 school year are planned for Fall Term 2007 and Spring Term 2008.  The same schedule will follow for 2008-09 (Fall & Spring Term training). If you are interested in participating in our training, download an application (MS Word document,42 KB), which is now available for Spring Term 2008.(All completed application for Spring Term are due March 13, 2008).
