Walking Routes

Email HAP Registration for measured walking routes in Hanover, on campus and at DHMC.

Take Steps for a Healthy Life:
Go Walking!

As promised in our summer calendar, HAP and the Upper Valley Trails Alliance are pleased to announce three noontime walks to introduce you to local trails that offer opportunities to incorporate walking into your daily routines. We are partners in a program to encourage regular walking as part of an active lifestyle among college employees and other residents of the Upper Valley.

These walks will be relatively easy and will be led by knowledgeable guides who are familiar with the trails. At least one of them will take place along Mink Brook, a natural area just south of the campus that the college helped conserve a few years ago.

Please wear comfortable, walking shoes or boots, dress for the weather, and bring water along with a lunch if you wish.

Regular moderate exercise such as walking has been shown to offer numerous health benefits, including

  • Helping control weight
  • Reducing blood pressure
  • Reducing the risk of heart disease, colon cancer, and diabetes
  • Preventing osteoporosis
  • Improving sleep
  • Increasing energy level
  • Decreasing mental and muscular tension
  • Promoting a sense of well being

If you are not a regular walker, here is an opportunity to get started while enjoying nearby protected areas. If you are, learn about local trails and meet other people interested in walking and the outdoors.
