Dartmouth Student Group Health Plan
(DSGHP)

Dartmouth College is committed to enhancing the academic success of our students by helping them to achieve and maintain the highest levels of health and wellbeing as possible. The DSGHP takes every opportunity to help students learn what is important to their health, reduce risks, and use the system of care available to them. Achieving this goal with our students each year will favorably influence the health of future generations.

Dartmouth College requires all students listed as active in the student information system, Banner, to have health insurance coverage that meets Dartmouth’s insurance requirements. To ensure that students are adequately covered, all students are automatically enrolled into the DSGHP, and the premium is then charged to the student’s tuition account each year they are eligible.

DSGHP was designed specifically for Dartmouth Students (and their dependents) to provide health care that complements the services available through the Dartmouth College Health Service. Although most students use the College Health Service for their basic needs, this does not protect them from financial hardships in the event of a serious medical problem. For over 30 years DSGHP has worked to maximize the benefits available to students while striving to minimize the total cost of healthcare.

Students who have their own health or insurance plan may apply to waive the automatic enrollment into the DSGHP by completing the waiver process by July 1, 2015. (If you complete your on-line waiver after the July 1st deadline you will be charged a late fee.) Please see “DSGHP Waiver Requirements” below.

Please be aware some health or insurance plans are limited, and may leave students basically uninsured while enrolled in Dartmouth College. This could result in considerable out-of-pocket expenses.

Students who will be participating in intercollegiate sports should be aware that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sponsors a Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program which covers the student athlete who is catastrophically injured while participating in a covered intercollegiate athletic activity. It is important to note that the policy has a $90,000 deductible.
