Notable accomplishments; elucidated the mechanism of the acid-catalyzed and base-catalyzed aldol condensation, determined the mechanism of the acid-catalyzed isomerization of cis-trans isomerization of olefins, demonstrated neighboring group particpation by carboalkoxy groups, showed nighboring group participation by a methoxy group via a boat conformation in the solvolysis of a substuted cyclohexyl tosylate, determined conformational group free energiesfor substituents in substituted cyclohexanes, pioneered the study of conformational equilibria by low temperature pmr measurements.
