Regional Economic Development: The Case of Southern Africa |
by
|
| Regional arrangements are transforming
international trading relations through the formation of trading blocs amd the
proliferation of free trade agreements. These include the North American Free Trade
Agreement (NAFTA), the expansion of the European Union, Latin American integration efforts
and moves by the members of the ASEAN coiuntries to create a regional free trade zone. The
Southern Africa Development Community views economic integration of its region as a
natural response to these (and other) economic developments in the international scene.
This paper examines the view that regional economic integration will serve as a building
block towards an African Economic Community. [Full text of this paper.] The opinions expressed in this paper are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Pew Charitable Trusts. |
