The
Gay Straight Alliance was formed in the spring of 1999 by a group of
students interested in allying the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender,
and straight communities of Dartmouth College. Our mission is
to:
-
Serve as a bridge between the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender,
and straight communities of Dartmouth College.
-
Provide a constructive forum where members of the community express
themselves without binding claim to sexual or affectational orientation.
-
Work together in order to increase understanding and acceptance
of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals in society.

terms; with the Treasurer, they prepare and present an annual budget
request to COSO; and they also serve as a liaison with COSO.

The
treasurer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records
of the GSA and is allowed to request checks or purchase orders on
behalf of the GSA. The Treasurer, with the co-Chairs, prepares and
presents any budget requests to COSO. The officers also insure that
all funds are properly kept within the College accounting system.

The
Secretary is responsible for recording accurate minutes of GSA meetings
and sub-committee meetings. The Secretary also records all votes that
occur in those meetings. The Secretary is responsible for the writing
and distribution of a newsletter and is in charge of informing members

and complete list of the members of the GSA.
Political
Chair: Sean Garren
The
political chair is responsible for keeping the group up-to-date with
current laws effecting the GLBT community at the College, and in both
the state and nation. More recently, the political chair has evolved
into more of an activist/awareness position, by promoting awareness
to the campus about GLBT issues.
