Hey all you crazy people!! Here are the scrumptious minutes from last night's (10/19) meeting:

*****QUEER BAR NIGHT******
*******IS TONIGHT********
9 PM LONE PINE TAVERN!! MASQER8!!! SO MUCH FUN TO BE HAD!!! BRING A FRIEND!!!! DRESS UP!!!!!
Set-up begins at 4pm today. Principle volunteers include Mikee, Lucky, Raymond Rodriguez, Leah Williams, Laura Sayler, and Jon Hopper. All those who want to help decorate as well, please come between 4 and 9.

*******GAY PROM*******
Erica and Ray had the idea of a Gay Prom event to be held in Winter Term. The group was in favor of the idea, but Jon Hopper suggested holding a smaller, more local event in winter term (something like a Winter LGBT Formal) and then to hold the bigger event of Gay Prom during the spring, thereby allowing more time to plan and prepare. Mikee suggested inviting other schools' GSAs to come to the Gay Prom to make an even bigger impact on campus. Shelley Miles volunteered to start planning.

*******ROTC ISSUE*******
Because SA discussed the ROTC issue without consulting or informing the GSA (as evidenced by the article in yesterday's D), our involvement with this issue really needs to be kicked into high gear. Your GSA executives will be drafting a statement on the matter to submit to the administration in the next few days. There will be a *SPECIAL MEETING* SUNDAY AT 8:30PM to discuss the draft, so please come with ideas!!

*****JOHN EDWARDS*****
...is coming tomorrow and will be speaking at 12:30. Register for the event by going to http://projectopportunity.org/tour-2005/, but remember that this does not guarantee seating. If you want, go and give him heat for his contradictory stance on gay marriage!!

****AIDS WKCREW CONNECTION****
Jon Hopper informed us that AIDS Workcrew is interested in creating a safe sex video to distribute to students on campus. If anyone is interested in helping with the production and development of this project, blitz Jon. Also, If you are interested in manning a protest booth once Red Cross comes for the blood drive, blitz Jon.

*****LGBT KATRINA RELIEF*****
Because it's too late to set up a hot chocolate and cookie sale during the bonfire, and because there will be free food given away elsewhere, the group unanimously decided to set-up a late-night grill/bakesale outside various dorms to raise money instead. Set up for this event will be discussed in future meetings.

*****POLITICAL CORNER*****
Jon discussed the upcoming Supreme Court issue of whether or not couples from states not supporting gay marriage can get married in states that support it. This case will have major political ramifications, so be on the lookout for interesting developments.

******DARFUR DIVISTMENT******
David from the DARFUR Action Group came with a petition for divestment on Dartmouth's behalf from companies in Sudan that are allegedly connected to the funding of genocides in the region. The DARFUR Action Group requested that GSA sign the petition. The floor was then opened for discussion.

--Issues raised-- Is this a GSA related topic? Are we signing as a group or as individuals?

The group decided to vote whether or not to table the decision to next week so that people can learn more about the issue.

--Vote-- Table to next week? Result: No, we vote now.

--Vote-- Sign Petition as a group? CONTENTION!

There was a contention that the quorum was not present, which would mean we could not vote on behalf of the GSA. This was then verified by the constitution.
As such, we will hold a BLITZ VOTE to decide whether or not to sign the divestment petition as a group. Be ready.

-------------------------------------
Ok, that was it! Good meeting, everyone.

Remember: QUEER BAR NIGHT IS TONIGHT AT 9! COME DRESSED UP AND READY TO HAVE SOME FUN! Also, be on the lookout for a blitz vote reagrding divestment, and come to the Special Meeting Sunday at 8:30pm.

HAPPY HOMECOMING!
-Peter
