Greenhouse Curator and Manager Lisa Palmer has been an avid plantswoman since an early age. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a double major in Botany and in Plant and Soil Sciences. Particular interests at work are species orchids, especially the Pleurothallidinae; the diversity of plant families; and the similarities between old and new world succulents. At home, Lisa is endlessly fascinated by anything green, and is particularly interested in native and Asiatic woodland plants, alpine and rock garden plants, perennials, woodies, and bryophytes. She is especially enchanted by the genus Daphne, and maintains a collection of nearly 40 taxa. She spends free moments wondering about structural similarities between chlorophyll and hemoglobin. She has a special interest in the diversity of color and fragrance in plants; and is particularly fascinated by plant morphology as it relates to geometrical and mathematical models. Ann is interested in plant evolution as well. Other interests are paper cutting and shape-note singing. Ann.Whitcomb@dartmouth.edu
