The Murdough Greenhouses

One of the orchids in the Brout collection

The (Mabel and Charles) Murdough Greenhouses were built in 1964, a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gordon Murdough in memory of his parents. The facility was extensively renovated in 1999.

While originally built as a private teaching and research facility, the Greenhouse now houses an extensive and varied plant collection with a wide range of diversity, utility and beauty. Among the most popular and diverse of our collections is the Brout Orchid Collection, home to thousands of species of orchids.

While continuing our primary educational mission, we are also open to the public to enjoy our 'living botanical museum'. Informal and group tours are available. Please contact us or check out our visitor information page. We are located on the 5th floor of Gilman Life Sciences Laboratory on the Campus of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. For further information please contact us at (603) 646-2382, or e-mail greenhouse@dartmouth.edu .
