"The legacy of the Green Key Society is simple: students' undying dedication to the school they love."

Established in 1921, the Green Key Society is an honorary service organization at Dartmouth College. We are in a unique position: our members are drawn from literally all across the College. By virtue of our roles as stewards, ambassadors, and servants, every year, Green Key helps to run such traditional Dartmouth events as First-Year Orientation, the Bonfire, Homecoming Sweep, Commencement, Green Key Weekend, and many other events including performances, services, and guest speakers.

      <title>NEWS: Basri ’13 describes childhood in Iraq</title>
<description>Murdered professors and daily car bombings are not experiences most Ivy League applicants have to consider including in their path to college admissions, but for Ihab Basri ’13, these experiences were all too real. Basri recounted his experiences growing up in Iraq to an audience in Haldeman 124 Monday evening, and described the effects the 2003 American invasion on the war-torn country.

      <title>OPINION: Community College</title>
<description>Thursday night, Dartmouth students organized a candlelight vigil on the Green to protest the potential staff layoffs and to express our concerns for the wellbeing of local community (“Layoff fears spark candlelight vigil,” Feb. 5). But, even before the candles had been extinguished, the community — in the form of the Hanover Police — jumped to return our compassion by announcing a Big Brother-esque crackdown on our social system.

      <title>OPINION: What’s Next?</title>
<description>Immediately after Jan. 12 every major media house had its attention on Haiti. The international community rallied aid and logistical support with the United States showing leadership by taking control of the situation. Concerts were organized; charity events launched and millions of dollars raised. There is no denying the fact that Dartmouth’s response has been overwhelmingly successful and the United States as a global leader has fulfilled its moral obligation. However, our collective forgetfulness and our tendency to slip back into our own small worlds, causes us to neglect the aftermath and undermine the veracity of our ideals. And in this, Dartmouth is not alone.

<title>OPINION: Letter to the Editor: Picking Sides</title>
      <description>To the Editor:
Did I hear a flip-flop drop?
Petition trustee hopeful Joe Asch ’79 claims he never supported the second round of litigation funded by the Hanover Institute against the College. Perhaps he has forgotten attending the December hearing in Grafton County Superior Court, sitting and commiserating with Frank Gado ’58, affiliate of the Hanover Institute and ardent litigant. Asch skipped the announcement of the Alumni Council’s trustee candidates in Hanover that morning in order to attend.

<title>ARTS &amp; ENTERTAINMENT: Montgomery Fellow Christo presents environmental works</title>
<description>Environmental artist Christo is known for his gigantic installations that are impossible to miss. On Monday, the Montgomery Fellow’s lecture — “Two Works in Progress: Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, Colo.; The Mastaba Project for the United Arab Emirates” — proved just as attention-grabbing as his past monumental works. Even before the lecture was scheduled to start, Cook Auditorium at the Tuck School of Business was filled to capacity, and additional attendees were funneled into adjacent classrooms to watch video feeds of the lecture and question-and-answer session.

<title>ARTS &amp; ENTERTAINMENT: HEAR AND NOW: The Who-were-those-old-guys?</title>
<description>There are three reasons people watch the Super Bowl: the football game, the commercials and the halftime show, roughly in that order.
For the game, viewers got to see this year’s underdogs, the New Orleans Saints, defeat the Indianapolis Colts to gain their first Superbowl victory. The ads during the Superbowl — quite possibly the only time commercials aren’t met with impatience and annoyance — featured children and animals resorting to violence for Doritos, grown men transforming into the likes of Betty White and Abe Vigoda because of a hunger that only a Snickers bar could satisfy, and a handful of other brands employing the expected call to machismo.
