As graduate leaders, and the newly elected board of the graduate student council, it goes without saying that leadership qualities such as trust, courage, and critical thinking are key! To encourage these qualities, the Office of Graduate Studies organized a high ropes course in the Storrs pond area. Many of the newly elected GSC board and several graduate leaders proved themselves worthy of the title “Graduate Leader!” Despite the tornado warning that day, and the scaffolding swaying left and right from the harsh wind, the participants successfully completed the ropes course and achieved a record timing! On the course, the students had to work through a series of challenges that required teamwork, critical thinking, and, not to mention, amazing balance. After all, the students did walk on a series of ropes with minimal aid, and only each other’s weight for balance. Trust was all they had to do to reach the end line! Despite the stormy winds and ropes swaying right and left, the graduate students were able to finish the ropes course with flying colors! Indeed, the coordinators of the course mentioned that this group of graduate students had “all that it takes.” Congratulations graduate students and hooray for a wonderful new GSC executive board! Kudos!
