Louis Burkot is the director of the Dartmouth College Glee Club. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer award at Dartmouth in the spring of 2000 and is well known for his work as Artistic Director of Opera North. Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe has praised his conducting as "first-rate, capable and stylish", and Opera News magazine notes his conducting "sparkles with verve and sensitivity to the needs of singers." He is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Music, where he has supervised many senior fellowship projects in Music including musically directing a student production of the opera Alcina and assisting with a student-conducted concert of Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil. Several of his students have continued their music studies in voice and conducting after Dartmouth at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston University, University of Cincinnati, and the Peabody Conservatory. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, his conducting studies include the Yale School of Music, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Houston Grand Opera. In addition, he gives master classes in Vocal Repertoire to music schools and conservatories throughout the United States.
