Yuliya Komska

Yuliya Komska, Assistant Professor of German, studied in her native Lviv, Ukraine,
at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, and at Colby College before
receiving her Ph.D. from Cornell University. Her research focuses on the cultural
history of the Cold War. She is currently working on a book-length manuscript
entitled Curtain Calls: Aesthetics at the Cold War Frontline, which describes
how, in the course of the conflict, the Iron Curtain evolved into an aesthetic site.
Her most recent project will examine the role of time and place in contemporary
Cold War dramatizations outside of Germany. Her teaching interests include, among other topics, 20th-
and 21st-century German literature and art, war studies, global Cold War cultures,
visual studies, tourism and pilgrimage, and migrancy and belonging.
Her research has been supported by Andrew D. Mellon, Luigi Einaudi, and DAAD Dissertation
Fellowships.
