Since 1979, the Max Kade Foundation has annually supported a Max Kade Distinguished Visiting Professor at Dartmouth. The visitor is a prominent representative of German, Austrian, or Swiss academic or public life who teaches an advanced seminar in the spring term.
In 1982, the foundation's further generosity made possible the construction of the Max Kade German Center,
a configuration of spaces for teaching, social events, a library, and dormitory living for 20 students. In addition to housing an annual exchage student from Germany (in 2008-9, Judith Rauscher from the University of Bamberg), the residence employs a resident advisor. In 2008-9,
Kathrin Spiller (University of Erlangen-Nünberg) will organize Center activities and serve as a general resource for students.
