This site constitutes the portal to information about geographic information systems
(GIS) activities at Dartmouth College. It describes what
the College is doing to advance use of the technology in teaching,
and provides links to resources including software, data, and
consulting support for instructors and students. It also contains
some basic information about GIS and links to more in-depth knowledge
sources.
Generally speaking, GIS is well-represented on the Web. One
of the best organized (and current) approaches may be found at
the ESRI's GIS site. Below
are some sites focused on cartography and remote sensing, as
well as a couple of sources for local geo-data.
Association of American
Geographers Cartography Specialty Group
Newsletters, fairly focused links. A slow site sometimes.
Remote Sensing Tutorial
Very good description of the science of remote sensing. A CD with tutorial information is available.
Vermont GIS
Downloadable datasets. Be sure to read the PDF metadata.
New Hampshire GIS
Downloadable datasets. Metadata is more scanty than for Vermont.
