FYSEP began as a one-on-one peer mentorship program during the 2009-2010 academic year. It was so successful that this year we are adding a pre-orientation component five days before official orientation begins.
Here’s what last year’s participants had to say about their experience!
“I was able to meet some of the nicest, coolest people on campus through FYSEP. These are the people who will teach you the ropes, give you great advice, and will do anything possible to help you. There is no other program that gave me more confidence or connections at Dartmouth.” – Nina Rojas ‘13
“My mentor and I were really well matched. We get along great and it’s awesome to have her as a friend and a resource!” – Emily Marshall ‘13
“Coming into my first year of college, I was nervous, confused, and I had no clue what to expect. FYSEP provided me with not only with a mentor, but also a good friend. My mentor gave me advice about which classes to take, good jobs on campus, and even helped me with my social concerns. I met some amazing people because of the network FYSEP provides, and I know I can go to any of them for help. FYSEP is all about helping freshmen transition to college, and it help make my first year very smooth.”- Chris Norman ‘13
“FYSEP has been one of the best choices I made this year. I made incredible friends and had a lot of fun at all the events.” – Francisco Herrera ‘13
“FYSEP is great. It allowed me to meet successful upper classmen, and allowed me to learn about many resources on Dartmouth’s campus. More importantly, I have become really close with my mentor; she’s like a big sister to me”-Angela Dunnham ‘13
“FYSEP provided me with the opportunity to share with the 13s things about Dartmouth’s social scene & academics that I wish I had been told as a freshman. Many of the things & resources provided through the program seemed not only helpful for the mentees, but very relevant for upperclassmen, as well!” – Abby Smith ‘12
“Working as a FYSEP mentor has been an amazing way to spend my senior year. I feel honored to have been able to meet my mentee and form a long lasting relationship with her. Though I was a mentor I found myself learning from my mentee as well and gained a new and valuable perspective on my Dartmouth experience” –Bernadette Reyes ‘10
“I have really enjoyed my mentoring experience. I’m glad to be a source of support and guidance to my mentee, but also I have gotten to know a great person and feel that I have gained a friend. I can honestly say that being a FYSEP mentor has been one of my most rewarding Dartmouth experiences.”-Kristina Gilbert ‘10
