Deadlines at Dartmouth must be taken very seriously. Course instructors have some latitude to provide you with extra time to complete assignments during the term; however, because the term is so short, it is not a good idea to get behind in your work, even for a day or two. You are expected to meet ALL deadlines set by the course syllabus and the instructor. Occasionally, you may, despite your best planning efforts, find yourself in need of additional time to complete an assignment. Course instructors, given a reasonable explanation, may grant extensions on assignments. If you must request an extension on an assignment, be certain to do so BEFORE the deadline has passed.
Incompletes (completing course work after grades are due at the end of the term) are RARELY granted unless there are grave circumstances (severe illness, family emergency) beyond the student's control. Imcompletes are a three-way contract between the professor, a dean, and the student. Incompletes cannot be granted simply because you have neglected your work in the earlier part of the term. Incompletes cannot be granted once the term has come to an end.
College administrative deadlines are even less permissive. Therefore, it is critical that students stay informed of registralial dates and deadlines.
