Purpose
The First-Year Office Student Advisory Board supports and enhances the interaction and collaboration of students with First-Year Office programs and staff. The interaction between deans and students is vital to the work of the First-Year Office and the ability to meet the changing needs of first-year students.
Specifically, the role of the First-Year Office Student Advisory Board (FYOSAB) will be threefold:
- to assist in planning and evaluation of First-Year Orientation
- to provide advice and feedback on First-Year Office programming initiatives
- to provide advice and feedback to the First-Year deans on specific campus-related issues and concerns as they arise
Membership
FYOSAB is co-chaired by the First-Year Deans and the First-Year Office Intern
The Advisory Board will consist of at least fourteen student members including:
- The First-Year Class Council President
- First-Year Class Council Policy and Student Life Committee co-chairs
- one first-year student chosen by the First-Year Class Council
- two first-year students chosen by the first-year deans
- two first-year students chosen by Student Assembly
Upper-class student membership consists of previous student members who express an interest in remaining on the Board. If the upper-class student membership falls below five, additional members will be appointed by Student Assembly election and FYOSAB co-chair approval.
Upper-class students for SA selection will need to apply in the spring and SA will notify the First-Year Office of nominations and alternates by the end of spring term. First-Year students chosen by SA will need to apply by the 4th week of Fall term and selected by the 5th week of the Fall term.
