Centers and Campus Organizations

The College's various academic centers offer a wide range of opportunities to get to know members of the faculty.

  • The Ethics Institute sponsors conferences and discussions to which students are invited.
  • The Dickey Center offers the War/Peace Fellows Program and the World Affairs Council that frequently engage faculty members in discussion.
  • Several of Rockefeller Center's student organizations--including PoliTalk, Women in Leadership, First-Year Forum, and Social Policy Dialogues--often invite faculty members to their dinner discussion programs. Rocky's Daniel Webster Legal Society works closely with the Legal Studies faculty planning lecture programs. Students may attend faculty research presentations at Center-sponsored seminars.

The Tucker Foundation organizes several discussion groups that engage professors and students. What Matters to Me and Why welcomes all-comers to lunch discussions with a professor and to talk about whatever comes to mind. The professors discuss anything and everything except what they specialize in, allowing you to see a different side of their personalities. Race Matters is a dinner discussion held at Dean Stuart Lord's house on selected Tuesday evenings throughout the term and often includes a faculty member. Blitz "Tucker Dialogues" for additional information.

Faculty members sometimes show up in unexpected places. Several of the student organizations funded by COSO, for example, have active faculty advisors. In addition, some Greek houses and the Order of Omega maintain close relationships with a professor. Other programs organizing intellectual competition, such as the Dartmouth Mock Trial Society or Occum's Razors, have faculty mentors.
