Student Support Services
Undergraduate Deans provide support to students during their entire career at Dartmouth, from their arrival through their graduation. They support the success of students by providing general academic, personal, career and major advising. They also administer withdrawals, incomplete contracts and implement other academic regulations. During the first year deans pay special attention to the well-being and adjustment of each member of the entering class, collaborating with faculty members and colleagues to support students in their engagement with the curriculum and in their overall educational experience at Dartmouth. Deans routinely coordinate and consult with colleagues from Residential Education, Student Life, the Office of Pluralism and Leadership, the Health Service, the Academic Skills Center, Student Accessibility Services, Athletics and other campus resources.

Access to Undergraduate Deans is through both open office hours and scheduled appointments. Any student can see a dean with a concern during daily open office hours, and in an emergency, through the college's 24-hour dean-on-call system. Many students schedule individual appointments with their deans to consult about various academic, personal, and social issues. These include: selecting courses, identifying and structuring a major, improving academic performance, planning for off-campus study, arranging for leave term opportunities, applying to graduate programs or for fellowships and grants, and choosing a career. Students in academic difficulty are invited to meet with their deans for assistance in returning to good academic standing. Deans may also serve as advisors to students during disciplinary proceedings.

The Deans enjoy getting to know as many students as possible in the incoming class, and try to be accessible and responsive. Deans readily answer phone calls and Blitz Mail queries.
