PhD Italian and Medieval Studies, University of California at Berkeley (expected December 2012)
202D Dartmouth Hall
My specialization is in twelfth-century Occitan and thirteenth-century Italian lyric poetry. In particular, I am interested in the movement of courtly love lyric from primarily oral to primarily written modes of transmission and reception, and my research, to date, has examined the particular effects exerted on this body of poetry by institutionalized rhetorical education and thirteenth-century epistolary practice. My other academic interests include: Italy on the Grand Tour, representations of Italy in the early Gothic novel, and nineteenth-century English medievalism.
