Historical Abstracts is a reference guide to the history of the world from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada, which are covered in America: History and Life). This database contains annotated references to information on topics from the Renaissance to Tiananmen Square. Published since 1954, over 2,000 journals published throughout the world are covered in the database. In addition to including the key historical journals from virtually every major country, Historical Abstracts includes a targeted selection of hundreds of journals in the social sciences and humanities that are of special interest to researchers and students of history.
Indexes
articles from more than 2000 journals published worldwide. Concentration is
on United States and Canadian history, Pre-Columbian to the present day. It
also includes citations to book reviews from over 100 major journals of American
history and culture and relevant dissertations. It is now THE index for journal
literature pertaining to American history. For articles published prior to 1964
it is necessary to refer to Writings on American History published from
1905 -1961 by the American Historical Association

International Bibliography of Periodical Literature (IBZ)
The IBZ Online (Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur = International Bibliography of Periodical Literature) is a universal index of periodical literature covering basic research from all fields of knowledge, and is particularly strong in the humanities and the social sciences. Over 5,600 periodicals are indexed by this multilingual database, now containing over 2.1 million records since the publication year 1983. It is international in scope, and indexes a significant proportion of the periodicals published on the European continent.
The FRANCIS file (FRA) contains records from more than 3,000 journals, books, dissertations, and other American and European sources covering the humanities, social sciences, and economics. FRANCIS is produced by the Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique (INIST). Subjects include Art History, Geography, Ethnology, Philosophy, Latin America, Art and Archeology, Sociology, Economics, Education, Literature, History of Science, Religion, Health, Linguistics, Computers and Law, Health, Management, Prehistory. Dates of coverage: 1984 to present.
Humanities Index is a bibliographic index, created by H. W. Wilson Company, that cites articles from more than 350 English-language periodicals in the fields of archaeology and classical studies, art and photography, folklore, general scholarship, history, journalism and communications, language and literature, literary and political criticism, music and performing arts, philosophy, and religion and theology. Periodical coverage includes some of the best-known scholarly journals and numerous lesser-known but important specialized magazines. This file begins with the February 1984 issue of Humanities Index and is updated monthly. Abstracts are provided for citations added to the database since 3/94.
Social Sciences Index (1983 to date)
Social Sciences Index is a bibliographic database that cites articles of at least one column in length for more than 350 English-language periodicals published in the United States and elsewhere. Coverage includes a wide range of interdisciplinary fields covered in a broad array of social sciences journals.

A fully-searchable database containing the full-text of scholarly journals in history, economics, political science, demography, mathematics and other fields. Coverage is generally from the beginning of publication to within 3-5 years of the current issues.
Academic Search Premier is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for more than 3,600 scholarly publications, including more than 2,700 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for all 4,500 journals in the collection.
The ATLA Religion Index is a comprehensive database designed to support religious and theological scholarship in graduate education and faculty research. The file contains citations from more than 1,400 journals and 13,000 multi-author works in and related to the field of religion. It also includes a full range of index citations to journal articles, essays in multi-author works, and book reviews from ATLA's print indexes: Religion Index One (RIO), Religion Index Two (RIT), and Index to Book Reviews in Religion (IBRR). Though coverage is from 1949 to the present, not all publications begin in 1949. The file is updated every six months.
P.A.I.S. (Public Affairs Information Service) BULLETIN.
A very useful subject/author index to current events in most areas. It contains journal articles (including law review articles), books, pamphlets and some government publications. Updates appear weekly with quarterly and annual cumulations.

This index precedes the CIS INDEX in coverage and is limited to House and Senate hearings only. Hearings are indexed by subject, title, bill number, and Superintendent of Documents Classification number. A separate personal name index contains entries for all witnesses, individuals who were the subject of testimony, and personal authors of cited papers and reports. The Reference Bibliography volumes include the hearings by Congress, lists the witnesses and their affiliation, and provides a brief statement on the subject matter.

One of the standard indexes
to federal publications. It includes material from the executive and legislative
branches.
Not as good for congressional publications as CIS, but the place to look for
publications out of the White House and the
executive agencies - Defense, State, CIA, etc. In 1976 the indexing was
expanded and now consists of author, title,
subject, key word, report number, and contract number indexes.

The Library ahs an extensive collection of primary and secondary source material originating from the League of Nations covering the period 1919-1946. Among these documents are the Official Journal, the Records of the Permanent Mandate commission, and the Reports of mandatory Powers. Most of the League of Nations publications are located in the Library at call number 341.11/L47. Several series have been moved to Storage.
