Maynard Street Closure beginning 09/24/2012
Beginning Sept. 24, 2012, Casella Construction will begin work that will enable the undergrounding of
overhead utilities on College Street between Maynard and North Park Streets. This work is part of
Dartmouth's project to replace the Gilman Life Sciences and Dana Medical Library buildings and will also
make the construction of a new sidewalk on the east side of College Street possible. In order to move
the College Street utilities underground, Casella will be installing conduit and manhole structures on
Rope Ferry Road, Maynard Street and College Street. Throughout the project, Maynard Street will be
closed to through traffic, but will always provide access to the Maynard Parking Lot and Emergency
Vehicle access to area buildings.
Work will begin on Monday 9/24 at 9:00 am, with excavation on Rope Ferry Rd and saw cutting of the
pavement surface on Maynard Street. The west end of Maynard Street will be closed at that time.
Access to, and egress from, the Maynard Lot will be via College Street only. The closure will be in place
24 hours a day. South bound traffic on College St will be detoured to Wentworth St. Traffic destined for
the Rope Ferry Rd, Occom Pond, Webster Ave and Choate Rd areas, including the Hanover Country Club
will need to use North Main Street to reach those areas. Exiting the area will require motorists to travel
south on North Main St to Wheelock Street.
As work progresses and reaches the access driveway of the Maynard Lot, access to and from the lot will
change to the North Main St side (west end) of Maynard Street. Through traffic will still be prohibited.
This condition should remain through the duration of the project, which is scheduled to be completed
by November 23, 2012.
