Since July 1, 2002, Dartmouth College has offered a program that pays eligible employees to find ways to commute by means other than driving in a single-occupant (SOV) vehicle.
The program, known as TDM (or Transportation Demand Management), aims to reduce the demand on College parking lots and mitigate traffic congestion on-campus by promoting alternatives to single-occupancy-vehicle community, including car-pooling, ridesharing, bicycling, walking and public transportation.
Under the terms of the program, eligible faculty and staff enrolled in the program will receive a parking buyout of $180 per year if they live within approximately 3/4 of a mile of the Green (the Village Zone); or $360 if they live beyond the 3/4 mile limit. (Street names included in the Village Zone will be defined in the registration renewal mailing.) Participants will also be provided passes that will allow four days of campus parking each month for those days when a car is needed close by.
Those eligible for the pilot program are full-time-equivalent (FTE) faculty and first-shift non-faculty FTE employees who have registered for parking on-campus and have a green, tan, or purple decal.
The buyout payment to those enrolled in the program will be prorated based on pay period and contained in their paychecks as taxable income. The buyout payment will continue until a car is again registered to park in campus lots.
Please contact the Parking and Transportation Services to learn how to participate in the TDM program.
