Parking Fines

Parking Violations

Fines will be issued for the below listed offenses. Fine amounts are based on the type of permit you have, the location issued, and the type of violation. If more than one violation has taken place the fine amount does not increase. The Parking Office reserves the right to make amendments or changes to the rules and regulations without prior notification.

  1. Unregistered vehicles
  2. Parking in any unauthorized area (i.e., no permit, improper or incorrect permit, reserved or handicapped spaces when inapplicable, etc.).
  3. Parking at any time, including nights and weekends on Tuck Mall, Tuck Circle, Tuck Drive, Whittemore Circle, River Cluster Dorms, Tree houses, Wheelock Cluster Dorms, lawns, fire lanes, delivery entrances, special areas and any other than designated parking areas.
  4. Failure to display decals.
  5. Failure to display decals in one of two designated areas.
  6. Failure to display visitor or carpool windshield card.
  7. Failure to display TDM permit and Day parking pass.
  8. Parking in areas restricted to carpool permit holders only.
  9. Securing or using parking permits through misrepresentation or fraud.
  10. Student vehicle parking on campus between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
  11. Temporary (15-minute limit) parking without accompanying flashers. (this does not include no parking zones and fire lanes).
  12. Parking in Faculty and Staff Housing Lots.
  13. Parking in the Medical School Lot "L" without the proper placard.

Penalties

Faculty and Employees

  1. Zone C registrants (Purple decals) fined $25 for parking in zone B, $50 for parking in zone A.
  2. Zone B registrants (Tan decals) fined $25 for parking in zone A.
  3. "In Zone" violations are: 1st offense warning, 2nd offense $10, 3rd and all subsequent $20.00.
  4. Unauthorized Handicapped parking and Parking in a Fire Lane $50.
  5. Non registered cars fined $50 when parking in any zone.
  6. On the third offense for "out of zone" or non-registered cars, are subject to towing and or immobilization, $100 fine.

Students

  1. Zone C - Off campus lots (fraternity/sorority/private house). Free registration (Blue decals) fined $25 for parking in zone B, fined $50 for parking in zone A.
  2. Zone B - A-lot, Ledyard, H, J and K lots - (fee for parking). Parked in zone C $25 fine, Parked in zone B, 1st offense Warning, 2nd offense $10, 3rd offense and all subsequent $20.
  3. Unauthorized Handicapped parking and parking in a Fire Lane $50
  4. Non registration fine (no decals) $50.
  5. On third offense, out of zone or non-registered cars are subject to towing or immobilization, $100 fine.

ZONE A parking lots: Mass Lot, Mass Row, DDS Lot, Butterfield, Tuck Mall, Clement, Lodge, Gym, Berry, Topliff/New Hamp, Dartmouth Row, Observatory Road, Richardson, Observatory Lots, Cummings, Channing Cox

ZONE B parking lots: Ledyard, Medical School lots (Maynard, F, G, H, J, and K), Gilman Lot, Moore lot, Leverone.

ZONE C parking lots: Thompson, Dewey Lot, Rental Housing lots, Off-Campus parking (i.e. Fraternities and Sororities).

Enforcement — Fines

Faculty and employees: Fines may be paid in person or mailed to the Parking Office at 5 Rope Ferry Rd (Hinman Box 6155). If not paid within 30 days fines will be billed.

Students: Green Card Administrative accounts will be billed.

Winter Parking

Personal vehicles may not be left overnight in Zone A and Zone B and Thompson Arena parking lots November 1st through April 1st, including weekends.

Disclaimer

Dartmouth College assumes no liability for damage to vehicles while parked in lots. For example, thaws during the winter season can cause ice to fall from College building roofs. Please consider this hazard when parking.

THESE REGULATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO AMENDMENTS AS THE NEED ARISES. ALL PERSONS USING MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE DARTMOUTH COLLEGE CAMPUS IN AREAS EITHER POSTED OR NOT POSTED, ARE SUBJECT TO ALL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS AS DESCRIBED IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR VEHICLE LAW.
