All allowed devices and appliances should be used in an energy-efficient
manner following manufacturers' instructions and stated limitations. Electrical
appliances should be turned off when not in use. Some electrical appliances
(hot plates, heaters, etc.) pose threats to property and should generally not
be used.
All new computer and peripheral equipment purchases should carry the Energy
Star rating. Suggested guidelines for energy-efficient computing include
turning off processors and/or monitors as often as possible and turning off
printers every evening. These steps save energy and reduce heat build-up during
the summer.
Any deviations from the standards above must be reviewed by FO&M.
