Surface Water Effects of Hydrologic Drought

Surface water mapping using the MODIS optical sensor provides frequent, wide-area coverage of changes in surface water supply. Such objective information can be used to to evaluate the impact of drought, including at many lakes, reservoirs, and other water bodies not monitored by in situ measurements.

The following documents examine the effects of specific droughts identified by the U.S. Drought Monitor, and also other major droughts, internationally, when these are recorded by the DFO Surface Water Monitor displays.
