Current Surface Water: Bangladesh and Surrounding Region

Published online by the Dartmouth Flood Observatory, Dartmouth College Geography Department, Hanover, USA 03755

These displays are derived from MODIS Rapid Response Subset image data supported by NASA and produced at the Goddard Spaceflight Center, Greenbelt, MD USA (http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/) and from the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). New, geocoded, images from MODIS aboard the Terra and Aqua spacecraft provide current information concerning the Earth's changing surface water. The display below is based on comparison of a recent MODIS image to that from April 22, 2008.

If a recent flood or drought event has been identified in this region, the GIS inundation polygons may be retrieved (in MapInfo export format as two files), and a GoogleEarth kmz file may also be available. For floods, please locate the event of interest in the archive. For droughts, please visit our project comparing the U.S. Drought Monitor to surface water changes.
