Space-based Atlas of the Earth's Changing Surface Water

The Atlas illustrates inland and coastal flooding observed by orbital remote sensing. Each map in the Atlas extends approximately ten degrees in latitude and longitude and records actual floods as imaged since 1985 (most intensively, since late 1999). Inundation limits for each year are combined and shown as one map color in the online map versions. Surface water detected by NASA sensors during non-flood intervals provides a standard hydrography for comparison purposes.

To access a browse version of the Atlas, open the Global Index Map and click on the appropriate 10-degree tile.
