Finance Centers News

  • On June 16 the Administrative Finance Center begins a pilot of the new OnBase system for departments to submit requests.  This system replaces the current request forms in Excel and Word.  This new system provides the ability to go on-line to enter a request, attach scanned documents, route for approval when necessary and submit for processing.  The pilot phase begins with the Purchase Requisition request form.

Background

Starting in January 2010, over 100 employees from across the Dartmouth College campus were involved in an effort to improve our financial transaction processes and to reduce costs as part of the Strategic Budget Reduction and Investment effort. This cross institutional team reviewed the most common finance processes, including payroll, procurement, business expense reimbursements, financial reporting, and account reconciliation. The team considered the gaps, complications and redundancies in existing processes, evaluated what other institutions have done to improve business operations, and obtained guidance from external experts. The design alternative that the team recommended, and that Dartmouth implemented, included the redesign of certain processes, improvements in the use of technology, clarification of procedures, simplification of forms, and reorganization of small groups of staff into finance centers.
