Purchasing

  • Define and communicate cost/benefit of certain purchases to encourage end-users to change behavior (air-conditioning, bottled water).
  • Take fullest advantage of vendor discounts by paying on timely basis.
  • Use procurement contracts and specified vendors.
  • Get the College out of the car rental business by eliminating VOX rental operations.
  • Allow offices to purchase outside of Procurement if they find better deals.
  • Consolidate ads posted in the Valley News into one larger "Dartmouth Events" advertisement rather than individual ads.
  • Have Procurement negotiate with vendors for good prices on department-specific purchases.
  • Have orders delivered directly from vendors rather than having them re-delivered internally.
  • Starting with the largest contracts, contact vendors to renegotiate contract terms, perhaps locking in long term contracts in exchange for favorable rates.
