Dartmouth College Ethics Institute

Fellowships

Dorsett Fellowship

The Burt N. Dorsett 1953 Fellowship Program Endowment in Applied and Professional Ethics is a true endowment established by the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation in conjunction with Research Corporation Technologies. The fund is established in honor of Burt N. Dorsett, Dartmouth Class of 1953.

Income from the Fund is intended to support a visiting Fellowship Program in Applied and Professional Ethics. The aim of this visiting fellowship program is to provide students and faculty from every branch of the Dartmouth College with opportunities to improve their understanding of the ethical challenges in fields of applied and professional ethics. The hope is that each visiting Dorsett Fellow will leave behind a new ability on the part of Dartmouth students and faculty to address the issues in his or her respective areas.

It is anticipated that at least one Dorsett Fellow will be selected to visit Dartmouth each year. Fellows will be either scholars in applied and professional ethics or experienced non-academic practitioners with a proven record of ethical involvement, concern, and reflection. If they are scholars, they could be at any level from the postdoctoral to senior faculty members at their home institutions. Non-academic practitioners will be those having an established interest and record in the ethics of their field.
