In Our Midst: Exploring the Long-term Impact of Neonatal Intensive Care

Each year, thousands of premature new borns are saved by neonatal intensive care. They're touted by the press and broadcast media as "miracle babies". But what is life like for the children, who often leave the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with multiple medical problems and developmental challenges? What is life like for their families?

The Greenwall Foundation awarded the Ethics Institute a grant for $211,822 to produce a video documentary exploring the impact of modern medical technology in neonatal care. As with the award-winning "Dreams" video produced in 1997, "In Our Midst" was developed, filmed and produced by videographer Richard Kahn, Ethics Institute Director Ronald M. Green, and George A. Little, Professor of Pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
