Service

The EPR Center provides service to the biomedical community with interests and needs in EPR measurements of viable systems. This includes acting as a central referral site for information and contacts providing service to specific users through measurements of their samples, on site consultations, and providing access to our facilities and collaborative support as needed for experiments that involve existing technological capabilities.

The major research areas that have been involved in our service activities have included advice and experimental assistance in regard to:

• the feasibility of EPR studies in vivo;

• instrumental development for in vivo EPR;

• the location of locally accessible EPR spectrometers/expertise for possible collaborative use;

• mechanisms of free radical modifying/generating agents;

• measurement of oxygen in viable systems;

• measurements of pO2 in tumors;

• measuring motion with EPR techniques (usually nitroxides) in cells and model systems;

• measurements of redox status by measurements of rates of reduction of nitroxides and assays of thiol groups;

• measurements of melanins and neuromelanins;

• radiation dosimetry

• providing specialized paramagnetic materials (e.g. LiPc and chars) to various users.
