WINTER 1999 FSP

Dustin Rubenstein:

Dustin did his dissertation research in Kenya, and he is currently at the Mpala Research Centre in Kenya, where research and projects are taking place on healthcare and AIDS education and family planning, training locals about wild dogs, working with communities to prevent lions and hyenas from killing livestock, community begun bee hive colonies to keep elephants from raiding crops, and more. He says, “They are really dying to get people here if for nothing more than to pay costs… Without a car it would be difficult to work here, but this is an excellent facility with so much going on, that it would be a great place for a Lombard fellow, senior theses students, ENVS grad students, etc.”

Chris Showalter:

Chris is living in New York City, although he managed to travel in Tanzania by 4x4 in December 2001 and was planning another trip to Zambia or Botswana.
