Bio: I have extensive experience in clinical research in older adults, as the Director of the Syncope and Falls in the Elderly (SAFE) Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston MA, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at NC State University. I have successfully completed several NIH funded studies that investigated effects of age-related disorders on functional outcomes in vulnerable populations of elderly people with stroke, hypertension and diabetes, and gained expertise in autonomic function control.

Abstract: Chronic diseases- including diabetes. as well as the The Safe Laboratory program which is a bit broader, featuring physiological studies, intervention trials, modeling, signal processing and imaging in people with chronic disorders that expands over several disciplines.

The Safe Laboratory mission is to determine factors that set the stage for decline in brain function and loss of independence in older adults. We study the mechanisms by which clinical, environmental, and hereditary factors set the stage for age-related disorders, failure of systemic regulation and mobility and functional decline in older adults. Our main focus is on stroke, hypertension, diabetes and obesity. We aim to identify preventive and treatment strategies to promote successful aging and independence of older people.
