Rich Media Collaborative Technologies - It Is Your Turn

Abstract: Rich Media/Collaborative Communications. These buzz words describe how technology is coming together to operate seamlessly from the office, classroom and home. This lecture will review five key technologies; videoconferencing, web conferencing, telemedicine, streaming video, and podcasting and how they are changing the way we teach, learn, conduct business and more. Most important, student input will be a key part of the lecture.

Bio:Raymond Kulig, an award winning television producer, has been involved in the field of television and videoconferencing/telemedicine for over 30 years. He began his employment at the Dartmouth Medical School as a producer for various medical videotapes in 1977. Later he was promoted to Technical Producer for the medical school's Interactive Television Network and was instrumental in developing that system's videoconferencing and satellite network as well as its video production facilities. In 1988 he became the Manager of MHMH Productions, a provider of television production services for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. There he helped to organize the new deptartment's facilities while at the same time manage it to profitability. Ray became Project Manager for the medical center's newest efforts in two-way interactive television in 1995 and in 2000 assumed full-time responisbilites for Videoconferencing Services. Seeing technology as a benefit to the medical centers worldwide activities he introduced web conferencing, streaming video and podcasting. DHMC is now considered a leader in the field of distance learning.

In 2006, the department began significant operations in "true telemedicine" where physicians and staff used technology to manage patients at distant locations. Currently, he is working with a team of physicians to develop a larger, 24/7 telemdicine operation for the medical center.
