Radford Chapple Tanzer: Time Line

How To

use the

Tanzer Timeline website
at
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~engs05/tanzer

Here are some Instructions, and an Overview on how to use this website:

This website uses Standard forms of "Linking", primarily

underscored titles, such as this: Example Link to Tanzer Timeline Home page

It also has some images and buttons that are links, such as the Timeline Navigational Bar. If you click on a box containing one of the 5 time periods, you will be taken to a different page with more details about that time period (the image below is a figure for illustration and does not link):

There are a number of video movies on this website, however, if you are off-campus and/or on a slow connection, you may not have good luck downloading these files, and it could slow down reviewing the website.

For this reason, all movies have been re-organized so that they no longer play automatically when you reach a page with a movie. This means you have control over whether or not you choose to initiate the movie. Once you do, you can always give up by clicking "stop movie". Some of the movies are quite large, and you can watch them if you are patient and wait until they are fully downloaded. All movies conform to Dartmouth's supported standard for Quicktime movies, which are supported on all platforms by Dartmouth computer support. If you are having trouble, either have the proper plug-ins installed on your computer, go to a location which supports this (such as your public library or nearby university), or give up and avoid trying to play the movies.

Other comments: All scroll-bars have been re-activated on all pages. These had been turned off last May for presentation of the website in a lecture, and use with undergraduates who all have access to a certain minimum size display screen. As there are a number of people with smaller screens who have been visting the website, there have been requests to re-activate the scrollbars.
