- An On-Line Website Resource and Biographical Sketch of Radford Chapple Tanzer, M.D., 1905-2003-Developed for Dartmouth College Course: Healthcare in the 21st Century

- A compilation of Readings, Images, Historical Documents, and Memorabilia from the Life and Work of Dr. Radford C. Tanzer.

The work of Radford Chapple Tanzer, M.D. is expressed in a timeline of his life, 1905-2003 and contains written documents, photographs, movies, and audio.  It is our hope that the spirit of Dr. Tanzer might emerge from this multi-media document.

Radford Chapple Tanzer, physician, innovator, and mentor, was engaged in the development of Plastic Surgery across the 20th century. This is the story of a New England Doctor.  He was the first surgeon to develop a reliable method to construct an outer ear for a child born without one.  He also used creative surgical strategies to treat soldiers wounded in World War II.

The website was designed to give students and other viewers a multi-media “biography”.  It includes readings from Dr. Tanzer’s published articles, as well as, a 1964 DHMC film documenting the four-stage microtia reconstruction.  It also includes readings about some of Dr. Tanzer’s own teachers, to show the development of ideas.

A special thank you goes to friends and colleagues who contributed to the creation of this timeline and website through their willingness to provide useful information and to give access to personal archives:  Sheila Tanzer, Ann Marion, Joe Rosen, M.D., Forst Brown, M.D., Fred Rueckert, M.D., and Mitchell Stotland, M.D.  We also thank colleagues whose work was drawn upon, and are grateful, as well, to those in the larger professional community who allowed us to reference published materials. ___________________________________________________
